Types of Essay Writing. Simple Essay

Some will discover composing an essay very simple although some may well not.

There are many types of essay writing. People call one of the types a simple essay but the truth is, there’s nothing simple about the essay. Composing an essay often seems to be a feared task among students. Whether the essay is for a scholarship, a class, or maybe even a contest, many students often find the task overwhelming. While a paper is a large project, there are many steps a student can take that will help break down the task into manageable parts, there are several steps to write a successful essay.

Choose one of the types of essay writing

The first step to essay writing is to define what type of essay. There are 4 main categories into which essays can be grouped:

  • Narrative Essay: Tell a story or impart information about your subject in an orderly and straightforward manner, like in a story.
  • Expository Essay: Explain to the reader how to do a given process. You could, for example, write an expository essay with step-by-step instructions on how to make a peanut butter sandwich.
  • Descriptive Essay: Focus on the details of what is going on. For example, if you want to write a descriptive essay about your trip to the park, you would give great detail about what you experienced: how the grass felt beneath your feet, what the park benches looked like, and anything else the reader would need to feel as if he were there.
  • Persuasive Essay: Convince the reader about some point of view. Knowing what kind of essay you are trying to write can help you decide on a topic.

Pick a topic

Your essay for training or persuasion? First, describe your motivation. Once you have identified the reason, you will need to conduct a study on topics that interest you. If you have a theme, you should think about the type of paper you want to produce. Should it be a general review of the subject or a specific analysis? Narrow your focus, if necessary. If you have not been assigned a topic, you have a little more work. In any case, this feature also gives you the opportunity to choose a topic that interests you. Think about your life. What are you interested in?

Prepare an outline

The next step is to outline what you are going to write about. This means you want to essentially draw the skeleton of your paper. Writing an essay outline can help to ensure your paper is logical, well organized, and flows properly. The thesis statement provides focus and signals your position on the topic. It is usually one or two sentences long.

Create a thesis statement

Start your essay with a thesis statement that will guide your entire paper. Your thesis statement is the main point of your essay. Based on the prompt, what do you want to argue in your essay? Your thesis statement should be concise, but incorporate all the main points you’d like to address in your paper. Continually refer to your thesis statement when writing your essay and make sure to never stray from your main points.

Begin with the body, not the introduction

Don’t start with the introduction. This will allow you to fully form your thoughts and ideas and come back and integrate the main ideas into your introduction. The introduction is the longest part of your essay writing and will consist of paragraphs arguing for and against the thesis you have made. It’s important, even if you feel strongly about your answer to the question, to acknowledge alternative viewpoints in your essay since it shows you have considered both sides of the argument s. Each main idea that you wrote in your diagram or outline will become a separate section within the body of your essay. Each body paragraph will have the same basic structure.

Write the introduction

Now that you have developed your thesis and the overall body of your essay, you must write an introduction. Your introduction should be short.  It should mainly include a sentence that expresses your statement or main idea and acquaints the reader with what you will be discussing in the paragraphs that follow. You can use shocking information, dialogue, a story, a quote, or a simple summary of your topic. Whichever angle you choose, make sure that it ties in with your thesis statement, which will be included as the last sentence of your introduction.

Conclude your essay

This paragraph should include the following:

  1. An allusion to the pattern used in the introductory paragraph.
  2. A restatement of the thesis statement, using some of the original language or language that “echoes” the original language.
  3. A summary of the three main points from the body of the paper.
  4. a final statement that gives the reader signals that the discussion has come to an end.

Add the finishing touches

After writing your conclusion, you might think you wrote an essay. Check the order of your paragraphs. Your strongest points should be in the first and last paragraphs inside the body, and the rest in the middle. Also, make sure your paragraph order makes sense. Check grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. Finally, review what you have written. Reread your article and see if that makes sense.

Congratulations! You have just written a great essay.
