To be fair, for most of high school and college, I’ve been a mediocre essay writer. I wrote really good essays from time to time, but mostly skating with B and A minuses. Know for yourself how boring essay writing can be and how difficult it is to write good ones. However, by the end of my studies, I made a breakthrough. I figured out how to not only write a great essay, but I also learned how to enjoy it.
Why Writing an Essay Is So Hard? Essay Writing Tips
Here are a few reasons:
You’d rather be scrolling through Facebook.
You’re trying to write something your teacher or professor will like.
You’re trying to get an A instead of writing something that’s actually good.
You want to do the least amount of work possible.
The main reason for writing an essay is very difficult because we mainly focus on external rewards like getting a passing grade or our teacher’s approval. The problem is that when you focus on external approval, it not only makes writing much less fun but also makes it much more difficult.

Because when you focus on external approval, you close your subconscious, and the subconscious is the source of your creativity. In practical terms, this means that when you try to write this perfect, plus-worthy sentence, you turn off most of your best resources.
Stop trying to write a good essay (or even a “good enough” essay). Instead, write an interesting essay, write an essay that you find engaging. And when you’re done, go back and edit it until it’s “good” according to your teacher’s standards. Yes, you must follow the instructions in your appointment. If your teacher tells you to write a five-paragraph essay, then write a five-paragraph essay! However, according to these guidelines, find a place to express something unique, I cannot guarantee that you will receive a higher rating (although you will almost certainly), but I can absolutely promise that you will have a lot more fun write.

10 Tips to Writing a Great Essay

1. Your Essay is Just a Story
Every story is about conflict and change, and the truth is that essays are about conflict and change too! The difference is that in the essay there is a conflict between different ideas, a change in how we should perceive these ideas. This means that the best essays on surprise are: “You probably think this is one way, but you really need to think about it differently.” See tip # 3 for more details.
2. Before You Start Writing, Ask Yourself, “How Can I Have the Most Fun Writing This?”
It’s normal to feel unmotivated when writing an essay. I’m a writer, and to be honest, I feel unmotivated to write all the time. But I have a super ninja, a judoka ploy that I love to use to motivate myself. Here’s a secret trick: One of the interesting things about your subconscious mind is that it will answer any question you ask yourself.
3. As You Research, Ask Yourself, “What Surprises Me About This Subject?”
When you’re writing an essay, it’s tempting to write what you think your instructor or instructor wants to read. Do not do this. Instead, ask yourself, “What interests me about this topic? What surprises me? If you can’t think of anything that surprises you, something that you find interesting, then you don’t look good enough, because history, science, and literature are full of surprises. When you look at how great ideas actually happen, the story always looks like this: “We used to think the world was like this. We learned that we are completely wrong and that the world is actually very different from what we thought. “
4. Overwhelmed? Just Write Five Original Sentences
A standard three-point essay is actually five original sentences surrounded by supporting paragraphs that support those five sentences. If you are feeling overwhelmed, just write five sentences. Here’s how they might look:
Thesis: While most students consider writing an essay a boring task, with the right mindset, it can actually be an enjoyable experience.
Body #1: Most students think writing an essay is tedious because they focus on external rewards.
Body #2: Students should instead focus on internal fulfillment when writing an essay.
Body #3: Not only will focusing on internal fulfillment allow students to have more fun, but they will also write better essays.
Conclusion: Writing an essay doesn’t have to be simply a way to earn a good grade. Instead, it can be a means of finding fulfillment.
5. Be “Source Heavy“
In college, I discovered a trick that helped me progress from intermediate to excellent, but before I explain how this works, let me warn you. This method is powerful, but it may not work for all teachers or professors. Use with care. So what did I do? I just quoted them in my article. When I was not quoting, I paraphrased what they said in my own words, of course, giving it credit. I found that this formula not only produced a well-written essay but also took about half the time to write.
When I used this technique, my professors sometimes mentioned that my work was very hard. However, at the same time, they always gave me. Like the five-sentence trick, this technique simplifies the writing process. Instead of focusing on good writing, it forces you to research well, which is easier for some students.
6. Write the Body First, the Introduction Second, and the Conclusion Last
Introductions are often the hardest part to write because you are trying to summarize your entire essay before you even wrote it. Instead, try to write a final introductory word, providing yourself with the text of the article to figure out the main point of your essay.
7. Most Essays Answer the Question, “What?” Good Essays Answer the “Why?” The Best Essays Answer the “How?”
If you get stuck trying to make your argument, or you’re struggling to reach the required word count, try focusing on the question, “How?”
8. Don’t Be Afraid to Jump Around
Essay writing can be a dance. You don’t have to stay in one place and write from start to finish. Give yourself the freedom to write as if you are circling around your topic, rather than putting forward one simple argument. Then, when you edit, you can make sure everything is lined up correctly.
9. Here are Some Words and Phrases You Don’t Want to Use
You (You’ll notice I use a lot of you’s, which is great for a blog post. However, in an essay, it’s better to omit the second-person.)
To Be verbs
10. It’s Okay to Use Wikipedia, if…
Wikipedia is not only one of the top 5 sites in the world, but it can also be a great research tool. However, most teachers and professors do not consider Wikipedia to be a suitable source for use in essays. However, there are two ways to use Wikipedia in writing an essay:
Basic research. If you don’t know enough about your topic, Wikipedia can be a great resource for quickly learning everything you need to know to get started.
Find sources. Check out the help section of Wikipedia articles on your topic. While you cannot link to Wikipedia itself, you can often find these original sources and post them on the site
